Rules
Updates
- Human
Subjects
- Eating,
drinking, tasting, smelling, application of a substance
or exposure to any potentially hazardous materials have
more than minimal risk. Any experiment involving any
of the above require a Qualified Scientist to review
the Research Proposal and sign Form 2 to show their
approval of the project. This is more of an expansion
of the rules rather than a change. See Human
Subjects Projects for more information.
- Vertebrate
Animals
- Strictly
behavioral observations of vertebrates no longer requires
prior SRC approval. The researcher, however, cannot
have any contact with the animal(s) or change the environment
in ANY way. Changing the type of bird seed to see which
birds prefers or changing the color of the feeder are
both examples of changing the enrivonment. These WOULD
require prior SRC approval. See Vertebrate
Animal Projects for more information.
- Potentially
Hazardous Biological Agents (PHBA)
- Frozen
tissue must be treated the same as fresh tissue.
- Projects
using some types of microorganisms, such as baker's or
brewer's yeast or Lactobacillus, no longer require Form
3 - the Risk Assessment. See the complete list of exempt
organisms in the section on PHBA.
Miscellaneous
